Please don't share any of the guys music with your friends, if they want it they can pay for it like everyone else. The guys don't benefit from people sending free music to their friends, infact, it could actually ruin them as they'd be loosing out on much needed funds that would be used for recording more tracks and so.

Please think about the consiquences of your actions before you do anything, no matter how little the affect you think you'd leave would be.

I was actually discussing this sort of thing with Alex on Saturday. If people carry on sending songs like "Broken Minor" around he feels it could ruin them. One person so far has been banned from here for several reasons, one of which was sending many songs in question around, including songs she shouldnt have a hold of after she'd hacked into private emails.

I told him hopefully that version of Broken Minor going around won't do too much damage as the final recording should, hopefully to all of us, be more amazing than the demo recording.

Yeah, i do have Broken Minor, admittedly, but i've never sent it to anyone- though i have to say, even i'm suprised at how many people have that song, seeing as people aren't supposed to, it's quite disappointing :/

I know, I'll admit I sent it to like 2 people and told them not to send it to anyone, and that was after it seemed to get quite far out there... Then talked to Alex about the matter and he told me he wanted to try and keep it on the low, so I stopped sending their music altogether...

Ugh, it bugs me when so many people have all these songs and they download them all illegally. >< It's unfair seeing all these people giving away, like, 13 songs all at a time to others. I'm all, "Are you serious? That's, like, $20 worth of Elliot Minor you're just giving away!"

I've only gotten 6 EM songs from a friend in Sweden... 'Cause she was always talking about those songs and I'd never heard them before. So she sent them to me. =/ That's as far as they've gone and ever will go. Everything else I've purchased myself. Multiple times. You don't even want to know how many versions of Parallel Worlds I own, both digitally off iTunes and disc-wise... lol

Lex sent me the demos in an attempt to get me into the guys XD Didn't listen to them till after Parallel Worlds came on TV one day though haha! Phil sent me one or two other tracks from Teddy...

Yeah, the bands work hard making this stuff, and the money comes in handy to get more stuff recorded with better equipment and better instruments and so... And when people send songs (especially those released in single/album format and so, the bands are losing out on a hell of alot...

Yeah but you have to remember not everyone is like that. Some people get music off others then don't bother going out and buying the stuff.

I never send stuff out that ive bought. I refuse to . I tell peopl to buy it themselves. It doesnt work anyway cos of licensing ...
Its a shame the people that dont bother buying it they just get it off everyione else ... not true fans ... I bought every version and every disc of both singles, preordered TWOIE bundle, and i plan to for all ones to come ... thats how i do my bit for the guys and i think everyone else should do the same! ...

I had Parallel Worlds before it was offically released, but I went ahead and brought it off iTunes, as well as the other versions too. Same with Jessica...

I think that if you're not sure if you want a song, then there's usually a video on YouTube with it as a backing track...so that way you can make up your mind whether it's worth a whole 79p...Which all Elliot Minor songs are of course!

I lied. I've only gotten four songs from my friend, not six. Realized that last night when I decided to finally organize all my music folders... Took forever, btw. T_T I actually asked myself, "Why the HELL do you own so much music, dammit?!!!!!!!!!"
But, yeah... Four is less than six... I feel better now. Slightly. >< hahaha...

Going back to the music business ... I think people sending the odd demo to get their friends interested could be ok ... cos theres a lot of peopl that do that and buy all of the singles anyway! ...
I have bought every versin of every single so far and i bet most here have aswell so i do as much as a can to help them out ...

I think its true though that the demos wont do as much harm as the final recording would if they got leaked. Last year the band were selling demos anyway so you cant be suprised at them getting around! ..

Its a shame at the peopl who get il ALL illegel. Its just like ... You cant be fans! Anyway ... Ill shut up now ...

Some of the songs you guys were talking about up there ^^ I have never even heard of...I'm just looking forward to the album. I hope all the people who, in effect, steal their music read everything written in this topic and feel guilty.

Surely if someone wants to listen to EM because you can't shut up about them...then play the tracks through some speakers to them, or like on an ipod, then they don't have to have a copy of the file...duh!

Sorry but I need to disagree! Sending songs to friends won't ruin a band (especially if the band is not that well known in the first place) - at times it can actually make one. There been many bands who I've only discovered through friends who've sent me songs - if they hadn't then I would never have spent my money buying them in the first place.

True fans will go buy albums / singles / whatever no matter what - even if they have downloaded demo versions of the songs, because they will want that album. And to send songs to friends who will not buy the songs anyway isn't doing harm, its doing good. It's spreading the knowledge of the band and if someone hears a song and likes, they'll go buy the album meaning more money for Elliot Minor, whereas not spreading songs and not hearing of the band will mean people will not buy the albums meaning no money for Elliot Minor.

My two cents anyway, I know many of you will probably disagree.

I can understand, it's just that a lot of people who are sent songs probably won't buy the track as well...and therefore the band aren't getting anything from that at all!

How do you know if you send a song to someone if they are going to go out and buy it?

Also, some people who think a band is "ok" probably won't go and get the album, there's plenty of bands I know of that I wouldn't go and get an album of because I have a lot of the songs on it already, or it might not be worth it.

Obviously people's views are going to oppose on this but I'm just supporting what this topic was made for.

I can see where you're coming from, but I still say its more likely someone will buy an album after being sent a few songs and liking them rather than buying one without listening to any songs from the band properly beforehand.

If people think a band is 'ok' but wont go and buy an album, isnt it better for them to have been sent songs, so atleast the band are known by more people, more people can spread the word and hopefully convert more fans? I'm just thinking of songs I've heard on music channels and the radio - I like them but its only when I've downloaded songs that I've actually listened to them properly, taken an interest in the band and then decided I want to spend money buying them an album. If I hadn't downloaded the songs in the first place I probably would never have bought the album.

Yeah I can see both sides.

It's just that as soon as 1 person has sent a song to someone, you never know how many people they are going to send that to.

And then instead of people spending a whole 79p of their hard-earned cash they just ask someone to send the song to them. Then it starts a whole chain of "fans" who own illegal copies of the song.

Like I said I can see this from both sides, but I just know not ALL people are like you and would go out and buy the songs after have a "taste" of the band, if you like!

I suppose the point of this forum is to let people get their opinions heard. And I understand where your coming from Smile

lol, likewise Smile Don't you think though that those people who ask others to send them songs rather than spend a whole 79p downloading one just won't buy the song at all and give up on the band? I know a lot of money comes from buying the music, but gigs must bring in a lot as well, and perhaps losing 79p from an illegal download will gain 10 from that person buying a ticket to see them live?

Yes I too can see bothsides of the story but the the rules on here are now ANYONE who has been trading songs illegally will banned and Elliot Minor will be told.. Simple as that.

nope, alot of the people gaining the illegally downloaded stuff don't think that way and i can bet more won't be seeing them live... but the thing is, most of their income comes from merchandising (Alex's mother told me that when we were in Leeds, some men were selling fake merch outside).

But yeah, as Lex (Alexandrea (sp?) you need a new name haha) said, any music sharing n illegal downloading will result in action being taken...

Everything is blocked at school so no-one can do anything there. All the games, downloads, shopping & forum websites are blocked...then there are the "uncatagorized" sites...STUPID!

Oh...we can get wikipedia! YAY . I think not.

So I end up having to do half my research for work at home, and what's the point in that?!?

I suppose it's not the uni or the schools fault; if all the immature, stupid people didn't go wasting time on the internet then they wouldn't need to block everything.

I've got 2 lessons to do some science coursework, but my lesson today was just spent getting frustrated about the number of blocked sites!

Thing is, and i know this isn't specifically EM related, but i do a music industry class at college and my tutor is a very successful man and knows his stuff and basically (it'd take me forever to go into details) but the whole music industry is going completely down the drain. Yes, merchandising is a VERY good way to make money as these t-shirts cost f-all to produce and the band get alot of the profits but tbh guys- they're not gonna be making much from CD sales, it's just a sad fact. My tutor reckons that in a few years time, record companies won't even exist and bands will onyl be able to make money through doing live shows- that, unfortunately is the way the industry is going. Dunno if you've heard about Cliff Richard letting fans decide how much they wanna pay for his album, and i know another band have done that too because you earn f-all from them.

EDIT- sorry, forgot to add that in years to come, people will end up getting all their music free anyway. We should definately do our best to help EM, but that's jsut the way the industry is going.

EM need all the help they can get if they're going to make it big. They are up against some popular artists

So if you haven't got the songs BUY them
If you do have the songs DON'T send them to other people tell them to BUY them themselves.

Oh and if you have last weeks issue of Kerrang try and vote for elliot minor in one of the sections XD

I agree ^^

I've brought the tee's and the hoodie...even brought my brother one too!

You can't REALLY be a proper fan if you steal an artists/bands music...thats not helping at all!

Completely agree with you. I'm in the same situation.

Will make me feel happier knowing I waited so long for something that is going to be SO good rather than stealing it and getting it early.

The final recordings are so much better than the demos anyway, so it's well worth the wait Smile

Yeah exactly! TWOIE just proves that!

I can't wait to hear the alternate versions to SFO when it comes out. And obviously the radio edit!

ARGH! I don't think I can wait!

But I shall...like a good girl Smile

I haven't read the whole thread casue that would take me aaages (ok not ages but im' too cold to have the patience to sit and read haha), but I agree with the first post Smile

Although I've got the songs from the demo CD they were selling on ebay I still really want to hear Broken Minor! I think i've heard it on youtube, not sure, but I love hearing the demos - it doesn't ruin it for me when the finsihed is out or whatever Smile

I like listening to both demos & the single versions tbh, because I like hearing how they've changed it lmao. But someone who'd never heard of them asked me to send a couple of songs on MSN so they know what they're like before the McFly gig this Friday. I was like 'Errr I'm not sending you ANY...' so I swiftly diverted her to HMV & iTunes, and their myspace & bebo pages Very Happy Turns out she thinks they're pretty awesome!!
